Science does not encourage us to relate ourselves to the Cosmos, but Qabalah does, in fact it goes further and states that we are a miniature Cosmos, complete within itself, a child of the whole.

This Starchild has some very special properties and it is the goal of Qabalistic study to bring us face to face with these: the good ones to develop and the bad ones to modify so that we may stop deluding ourselves and use the intelligence and powers that are our birthright.

The Tree of Life is a highly-charged symbol which has been with Mankind for millenia.  As a working symbol for study and active meditation, it has been used by the Western Mystery Tradition for hundreds of years.

Everything in the Universe can be explained by this composite symbol and it forms a map of consciousness as well as indicating the paths of “return” - the balanced way in which we must approach a higher level of consciousness, and thereby realize our true nature.  This journey is not just one of discovery, it is one of remembering.

The Tree of Life comprises ten “spheres” or Sephiroth, each of which derives from the one which precedes it, as they follow their eternal dance of creation. 

There are really four trees, one to each of the Qabalistic worlds.  Each tree has the same Sephiroth but different attributes in terms of levels of being.  The tree here is called the Queen Scale and corresponds to the Astro-mental world of Creation. It’s the one you will normally use in your exercises.
