What is Magic?
The word is so abused that it has lost much of its true and wonderful context in this cynical and exploitative age. The word “Magic” is derived from the ancient word for “wise ones”, Magi. Throughout history there have been references to “wise ones” who seem to have an view of life and the workings of the world which come from a different perspective.
Magic was defined by Dion Fortune as “the ability to change levels of Consciousness at will”.
There is nothing unique about SOL’s approach to teaching this perspective. This insightful view belongs to all of Mankind and can be studied in many ways. The Western mind, however, has certain characteristics which enable it to respond to a certain type of instruction and practice. For this reason, many of the Eastern approaches, such as Yoga and Zen, do not always take well in the mind of the more active and materialistic Westerner.
The SOL magical curriculum provides an approach tailored to this Western mindset and includes:
- A full study of the “psyche” the part of us that thinks it is an “I”.
- The use of the Qabalah as a meditation glyph and a reference system for all that is learned.
- An understanding of the use of drama and ritual to communicate inner truths for which words cannot always be found.
- Development of the creative imagination as a tool for focus and achieving harmonic results.
- Inner knowledge of the world’s mythologies and their correlation to the Tree of Life
