Kether, pronounced Keh-t-er (the “th” sound is pronounced as “t” in Hebrew). Means Crown.
In Qabalah, the universe is conceived as being a reflection, within manifestation, of the infinite singularity of God, which lies outside it. God cannot be wholly experienced within the universe of his/her own creation, but everything within that universe is a reflection, a song of the harmonics which gave it life. For this to be true, a single point of manifestation must be the origin of everything else, a point of infinite BEING. From this point creation constantly flows outwards into the manifest universe.
Kether is the point from which Light, Life, Action and Reaction flow. Kether, which means “Crown”.
Kether is the first of ten “spheres” of existence. These spheres are called Sephiroth (plural) and Sephirah (singular) and have a definite sequence of appearance, just as a musical chord unfolds as its notes are played in harmonic order.
The sequence of unfolding of the ten Sephiroth is called “The Lightning Flash” and is very important in understanding the dynamics of consiousness. From Kether, the energies of being flow first to the right (the positive or expansive) pillar and then across to the left (negative or forming) before passing into the “child” level of the one below, which always represents a maturing, ongoing development born from the balance of the pair above.
The forces or states of being move gradually towards the world we know as they descend the Tree of Life.
