Group Work is at the heart of how Qabalah is taught and, more importantly, experienced. We live in a world of Mind, and Qabalah reveals to us how mind organises itself among all living things. Plants, animals, higher animals and humans all have mind at the core of how they experience their lives; but does end there? Qabalah teaches us that these categories are levels of development in an unseen chain of life which exists throughout the Universe. The higher, invisible worlds are populated by magnificent beings that have, historically, been called Angels and Archangels, but to which today’s science fiction writers could probably give a much richer definition.
And what of Mankind and its place in this “ladder of consciousness”. Well, the answer to this is at the heart of Qabalah, since it is taught (and experienced) that man occupies a very special place in creation; one that spans the entire spectrum of the created worlds. The glorious potential of this makes man’s world a harsh one in which every gain has to be striven for, and results in a world where darkness, violence and selfishness always seem to triumph over the inherent good in us all.
But this is an illusion, for the forces of good are stronger than the darkness which is simply their absence; and the presence of severe polarity is necessary in a world created with such dynamic purpose.
At the back of all this is man’s unique ability to bring consciousness together to span the four Qabalistic worlds in which all creation lies layered in beauty. It is true that only the Earth’s most advanced teachers have achieved this, but they have left a legacy of instruction which has been expressed in many forms and in many languages. The Western Mystery Tradition, as taught by SOL and Eye of Horus, is one of these authentic paths.
Each woman and man is a light which shines in these inner dimensions. When sincere seekers come together in a group, that light is magnified, such that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In group work we seek to expand that light, so that our efforts and openness of heart may bring us into disciplined contact with the higher forces of mind in this wonderful garden of consciousness into which we were born.
